Welcome

While I have been writing on my blog for over a month, this is the first day I've actually invited anyone (other than Jennifer) to read it. So, welcome! I chose today intentionally, as it marks one month before my confirmation in the Episcopal Church.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the way blogs work, they list the most recent entry at the top. I suggest that you scroll to the bottom of this page to begin with my first post entitled "Episcopal Peregrination" to read about the purpose of this endeavor and read the blogs in order. I especially welcome comments in response to my thoughts and suggestions for things you might want me to talk about. Click on the hyperlink at the bottom of a post called "comments" and, if you don't have a blogger account, choose "other" and let me know who you are. Send me a private e-mail, if you prefer.

Thanks for your interest.

Hi TKP, thanks for commenting. Everyone should follow your example. Here's a question I think Brent should address in the future: why the Episcopal church? why not Catholicism, Greek Orthodoxy, the Lutherans or Disciples? I, of course, have an advantage over the rest of you (sleeping with the blogger can get you all kinds of info) (for those of you who haven't figured this out, this is Brent's lawfully wedded wife speaking) but I figure we might as well get the Big Questions out there. So come on, speak up...what are the other Big Questions...?

I have no idea how to do this. How does one become a "blogger". It seems that this has the potential of become highly addictive, so I'm not sure I wish to become one, but as we all are on some kind of journey...perhaps I'm on a journey to "Bloggerland"...wherever that may be. Actually, I am on a pilgrimage of my own. Being raised (or would that be reared...Jen, you'll have to answer that one) in a faith system that is a bit confining, to say the least, I find myself in a journey of exploration. Exploration in the sense that I am revisiting old ideas and new ideas. I too am melding those into an outlook that is both old and new for me. I cannot discard the influences of my past, and don't want to, but the older I get, the more I want to discard what no longer works, and discern those things of value that will work forever. Tolkien has a excellent quote...or is it CS Lewis...(for the life of me I cannot seem to keep those 2 separate)...about a journey. I wish I could remember it. Darn this menopausal stuff! Does anyone know the quote I'm referring to? I'll do a little research and hopefully lay it on you next time. Until then, I'll ponder "the BIG questions".

Yeah man, what about the Episcopal church? It doesn't seem to be a very common jump with former C of C members.

I second Jen's and TKP's questions, because I have a good friend that has also made this move. He's posted some comments on my blog (insert shamless plug of self-promotion!). :-) Look forward to your thoughts.

I think I know the answer to this question. I've never before heard Brent express it outright, but I suspect the reason he's going Episcopal is the same reason I'd go Episcopal if I left the COC. However, I do find the Disciples awfully attractive. I'd have to date each one of them for a while before making my final choice. :)

Brent (& all),

Check out the Feminary's blog (http://feminary.blogspot.com)today. There is an excellent short post on liturgy which sounds awfully familiar...

Hey, just a note to say, "Hi," and welcome to the Episcopal Church! I, too made the journey from the CoC to the Episcopal Church (with a 3-year stop in the Metropolitan Community Churches).

Like the blog so far, keep up the good work!

Brian,
Were you at Harding University at any time during 1994-1998?
